Erin Burnett calls out GOP not endorsing but voting for Trump: ‘That is an endorsement’

ERIN CORBETT/Raw Story

CNN anchor Erin Burnett got real about Republican support for Donald Trump on Thursday night’s OutFront.

Burnett brought attention back to some of the lawmakers who jumped ship after the Washington Post released the now infamous Trump tape in which the presidential candidate is bragging about sexually assaulting women.

She says, “When you have Republican lawmakers who are coming back — some of them are, some of them are still running but some of them are coming back. The tape came out, and that was sort of the straw that broke the camel’s back.”

“You have a whole bunch of them that ran away,” Burnett continues. “One of them was Jason Chaffetz, the Congressman.”

After the initial release of the Trump tapes, Chaffetz said “I’m not going to put my good name and reputation and my family behind Donald Trump for President when he acts like this. I just can’t do it.” That was on October 7.

Now, the Utah Republican has taken to Twitter to suggest that while he will not “endorse” Trump, he is voting for him.

Burnett calls it like it is. “I have to say, this is one of the things I can’t stand,” she says. “When people say ‘I’m voting for someone but I’m not endorsing them.’” She continues, “I’m sorry, then don’t say who you’re voting for, OK? Because that is an endorsement.”

She then lists the other Republicans who have responded similarly.
